Javornik waterfalls

Author: Nik Bertoncelj

Two magnificent waterfalls roar close to the rest areas for horse-drawn carriages by the present-day road to Javorniški Rovt but they are often overseen because of the sound of the river. They are to the right of the road and when we find them we can't help but marvel at the artwork created in the cold sweat by the masters of two very distant earthly ages: tufa, which has been depositing since the Ice Age, extends a hand to the dolomite of Triassic origin - about 230 million years ago. The moss appears at the edge of a wide strand of falling water, like a heavy plush curtain next to a light satin one. But you can admire this and much more only after heavy rain.
